Still living with his parents and down on his luck, George is discovered by a hand modeling scout and is given a chance to model. It is very comical simply because George is a short, stocky bald man so to associate him with modeling is an odd site to see. However, he is constantly complimented on his hands and seeing this as an amazing opportunity, he goes to the extreme to protect his new found talent. He wears gloves and oven mitts, he can no longer take yelling fore it "damages the epidermis" and gleefully skips after receiving his first check. It is not until George's and Jerry's stories intersect that George's hands are ruined.
This is crucial in dispelling Root's thesis of writing George off as a loser because it shows evolution from the George we see in "The Red Dot" up to this episode. George gets a good job yet ruins it with temptation. He does not succumb to temptation this time, reminding us that he "won a contest." He did not take the job at Pendant Publishing seriously and was ultimately fired. This time is different. He takes it very seriously, tries his best to preserve his rare, milky white hands and enjoys his new found career. The downfall of this career is also different and has evolved since the "The Red Dot" episode. George losing this job is not his fault fore he is pushed into an iron in which he has no choice but to grab it with his hands and burn himself.
We see progression and positive change in George; he is evolving into a more responsible person. Of course this is portrayed in a comical way but does not take away from the fact that he is showing maturity. George has found a career that he likes and is surprisingly good at, so he does the responsible thing and acts like an adult, even if for a little while. George was not a colossal failure at hand modeling and it only came to an end because it was forced upon him.
